As the project moves forward, I am needing a recommendation on engine initial timing.

I will be picking up the engine from the machine shop and wanting them to leave it at or near TDC. What should I have them set it to? I have read that factory is 6deg before TDC. With my setup, should I run 10-12deg before TDC?

a fire in the hole should be near!

thanks

I believe you are referring to spark timing? Jus t have them set the engine to TDC on #1 piston. Line up the dist oil drive and stab dist. Get it running and set timing to 10-12 with no vac hooked up. With vac, I like to see around 20 degrees. Each engine is different. Depends on cam , carburation and timing.

Be sure to run breakin oil and bring it upto 2K rpm for 20 minutes. This is for the cam. Keep a fan nearby to help cool the engine. Tom
