The stamp pad reads as follows:
0582891= Production Sequence Number as assembly line assembled.The first on on line would be 1001, so yours is the 582,890th assembled on the line.
f = Flint,MI
54 = year
z = 235 cu.in. Reg.engine 115HP 7.5:1 comp.ratio 1 bbl carb Std.Trans.

The block casting number will be raised numbers on the side of the block.The head casting number is on the top but under the valve cover. A good cleaning is sometimes necessary to see the numbers clearly.
If you can read them, look in the Casting Number link to the left of this forum page.

Hope this helps.

I believe the head casting numbers were exposed, not under the valve cover, or did I miss something?

As Drew said, 54Z is a '54 car 235. Yes, it is a full pressure engine.

What are you planning to do with it?

My plans are I have a 54 belair i wante dto replace the 235 with a 68 chevy 250 and a turbo 350.I thought it was a esay swap.Then found ou tabout the length difference in motors.I already swapped out rear end for open drive.The price for rebuild on 235 is between 1400 and 2000 dollars.I bought a 250 and trans out of a 68 camaro for 300. 30,000 mile son both.Now weighing my options.i was hoping the exchange would be a easy drop in.I was hoping I could talk to people who have made the switch to see what problems they incurred and if it was worth it.
