I had decided it was time to rebuild the Rochester on the 292 in my big Jeep. The carb may end up getting replaced, it has been some abused in it's past lives. Anyway after I had reinstalled the carb and was adjusting it I had my hand where back behind it and could feel some exhaust leak pulses. So I picked up a new gasket and went to work.
This is what I found.

I think it's toast but I'll defer to the opinion of experts

Lucky for me I had just happened to acquire a spare engine complete with manifold a few weeks ago.
Of course it couldn't be quite that easy. the old manifold had a 2 bolt flange and the new one has a 3 bolt flange. Had to find a new flange and once I get it all back together I'll take it down to my buddy at the muffler shop and get a complete exhaust system put in.

YEP,ITS JUNK. ALSO WHEN THEY START LEAKING YOU REALLY NEED TO REMOVE INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS AND SEND THEM TO A MACHINE SHOP SO THEY CAN FLUSH GRING THE PAIR BOLTED TOGETHER, COMMON TO DO ON CHEVY NON-INT. HEADS. NEED A 292 BIG OUTLET NEW EXH. MANIFOLD ?

I had a good spare off of another 292. New gasket and it bolted right up with the exception of the exhaust pipe. The "new" manifold has a 3 bolt flange. I'll take it down tomorrow or Tuesday and get a complete new exhaust system made up for it. Coincidentally, the muffler shop I use had the local VFDs M715 on the rack getting a new exhaust so the muffler guy has recent experience with the truck.

I took a paired set off intact and installed it as a pair. I've never had a problem doing that before (on 235s). Didn't know about the potential. If I have gasket problems I'll keep that in mind.
