Inliners International Forums General Discussion Hi Performance strange knock

i have a short track motor and it has a wierd knock tapping sound at start up and under light throttle. before i tear the motor apart is there anything else it could be. i checked the converter bolts they are tight i also checked the valve lash my oil pressure is good. i over heated really bad (about250*) and thats when i started hearing the noise could i have broken my converter? i also have solid lifters i dont know if i could have damaged one of them or a rod any ideas?

Is it now smoking?

i didnt notice any smoke but once i heard the tapping i parked it im checking a few things tonight after work so ill see if it smokes after start up or while running

i started it today and no smoke but i noticed the knock its a really loud like someone hitting the car with a small hammer but it only happens sitting at idle and when it revs it goes away but it was cold so i dont know if it will get worse when it heats up im just scared to let it run too long

is it there when cold and then go away after warm up?
possable wrist pin. i ran a chevy 250 in my 80 c10 for 5 years doing that and had no problems, if thats what your problem is.

It could be a wrist pin likes other have said. You siad you checked the convertor bolts.Did you check the flywheel/flex plate to crank bolts? One other thing to check as well and the is the dampener. Back sure it is still tight on the crank. and Moving.
