What is the highest compression you should run with a turbo I have a short track 250 that ran in a late model dirt track car with 12.5:1 compression I think this is too much for a turbo. But my friend says it should be ok if the motor is a race motor already what do you guys think?

Alcohol? Yes, but very carefully.
Gasoline? Boom.

x2 + boost timing retard. + knock sensing + EGT

gasoline + 12.5 + boost == shrapnel.

Get the coldest sparkplug they make otherwise.... and suggest that you use only ngk plugs - why - the ground electrode are the softest - they'll melt off and stop firing it things get too hot. self protection.

Now a days guys are running more compression than the past,mainly because people are using electronics to control timing,& having knock sensors ,better fuel distribution & so-on.

Running a low compression engine will (for ther most part) get worse mileage, slower spooling of the turbo,& just an all around sluggish engine.

My Syclone has 8.4:1 & is a bit sluggish when out of boost.

Agreed.. if I was going to start my turbo 4200 project again I would stat with 9:1 minimum most likely 9.25:1. the 8.1:1 that I ended up with is lazy off boost.

Too mcuh compression, period. Low compressio is a must (around 8-8,5:1) to avoid detonation, and don't forget turbo motors don't like overlap (if you are thinking to use a normally aspirated cam).
