I figured out why my mototr wont run the guy i bought it off of backed the valves off for storage. I have 1.6 1.7 roller rockers on a 250. I have never owned a car with rollers before and i need to know how to adjust them i have a lash spec but how do i know where the valves should be to adjust them? i have heard 8 people tell me 9 different things. Thanks (sorry for all the rookie questions but this is my first hot rod domestic im a reformed ricer!)

Closed, as in every other engine.

ChevyII,
This was just discussed in another post, very recently.
Do you have a hydraulic or solid lifter cam? It makes a difference.
Also your engine came with 1.75 rockers from the factory. Many people run BBC 1.7 rockers, never heard of 1.6 though? Tom

I don't know what cam is there a way to tell? I was told the lash is .020 intake and .022 exhaust but I don't know where to go from there

If the information you were given is correct, you have a solid lifter cam. Santucci's Power Manual has good instructions on how to set the valves...

[quote=chevyiiguy]I don't know what cam is there a way to tell?

Dial indicator setup on the pushrod end of the rocker to determine lift (highest reading minus the lowest reading). Duration can be figured pretty easily with a degree wheel and using what is prescribed in the power manual (Leo S's book).

Good luck.

If at first you don't succeed,
then read the directions and try again.
