Greetings;
I'm working a 1938 Dodge dumptruck which I purchased a couple of years ago. When found, it was buried under a pile of lumber, and hadn't been moved since 1973. I abandoned the original chassis and dump bed, keeping only the cab and front clip, having no desire to drive 1938 vintage 2 ton suspension and brakes.
The cab is similar to the '38 Dodge pickup, with the addition of side skirts and taller fenders. When installed on the '82 chevy 1 ton dually donor chassis, it should look lowered while the chassis remains at stock height.
The cab and fenders appear to be fairly simple and robust in construction. I handed my wife the plasma, and she cut the cab in half; I've now reassembled it 21 inches longer since interior room was so limited. Does anyone out there have experience with the '38 Dodge truck bodies? I'd like to know about weak points, window and door problems, whether I should entirely swap out the door latches, and so on.
The headlights on the truck where changed at some point, and don't fit the stanchions properly. Does anyone have an idea or a picture of what the original light cannisters looked like?
