Will the 250 bolt right into my 50 chevy? It really looks similar and just wanted to be sure. The nova is an automatic, and the chevy's a 3 speed. Can I use the flywheel from the 216 on the 250 engine?

No and no. The only similarity is the number of cylinders and the brand name.

The 250 engine is longer than the 216 found in 50 Chevys. The 250 can be put in, however it is NOT a bolt in. We put one in a 49 Chevy, however we had to move the radiator forward a couple on inches and its sort of like one modification lends itself to more modifications.

Chassis Engineering http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/chevy/1949-1954chev.htm makes up bolt-in motor mounts and a plate for the trans cross-member. Like was stated, the rad is a problem and so will the exhaust if you decide to run headers Limited space by the firewall. A 235 would go in much easier but I guess if you already own the 250, thats the better choice. Just have to do some fabricating...

If you want to run the newer automatic, you will need to change the rearend also.
Nothing behind the 216 engine will bolt up to the later 250.

Dear Jack;
A 235" can be bored to 252" & 'bolt in' that model.
Good luck, John M......

radiator must be moved a little to front, enginemounts are different, but alike the 54ī take the tranny and rearend with column, and you got not so hard job. With other gearbox, powerglide, ec. you need change/ rework the crossmember under transmission also.

The stock radiator placement is ok with the use of a ele.fan.The 235 exhaust pipe will bolt up.The clutch linkage will work. The oil pressure line will hook up. The starter wires will reach just fine. Water temp. WILL NOT reach. The throttle linkage is a snap with LOKAR linkage.NOW just build some front motor mounts and a later open drive shaft transmission and rear end. The hardest job for me was bending new shift linkage for the 3 on the tree shifter.Get this all done and you will have one of the sweetest ride going...SCRAP
