I usually have to step on the clutch a couple times to get it to go into 1st, but for some reason, it doesn't want to go no matter how many times I go back to neutral and let the clutch in and out. All the other gears go through as normal, but 1st won't go. I don't use 1st much, but it is nice letting the truck creep up the driveway when icy. It was usually hard to get into 1st, but never like this. I know a downsift to 1st is hard anyway cuz there is no syncro I don't think in it. Any ideas why it won't budge? Thanks guys ~John~

have you tried to double clutch - release the clutch rev the motor a little and engage clutch release and try to engage first if this doesn't work sounds like internal trouble

I got the thing to go into gear. It sounds like it wants to grind or something when doing that, even with the clutch in.

How about clutch adjustment, just a thought.

You know I didn't do any re-adjustment since I put the clutch in. I just got it good right after and never checked on it. Thanks for the idea. That may be it. I will give that a try. It just seems wierd to me that it is only first that is giving me trouble. If that doesn't do anything, I am going to take the stick out again and put it back in because maybe that little cap on it is not right. When I first put everything back together after the clutch job, reverse was hard and I think it was the way the stick was in because when I took it out and put it back in, it was fine, so maybe that would be it. It is just strange since 1st used to work fine, I used it alot creeping down steep dirt roads with a load in the back and it was fine. Thanks.

P.S. - It is full of oil ;\) I changed it when I did the clutch, it isn't dry.
