Have checked casting numbers--I have a 54-55 Chev 261 truck engine. My water pump has a 5/8 pulley, short shaft. To date, have only located a 3/8 pulley on a short shaft as replacement pump.

I've been told that I can run a 216 water pump on my 261...is this right??

Any suggestions on where to find the correct replacement water pump for my 261?

Thanks in advance--T.K.

You should be able to swap the pulleys between the two, or run a 216 pump. The only differance between 261 and 235 waterpumps is an extra threaded hole and pulley size. Impeller is the same.

Is this the high mount pump that sits above the block (first series engine)? If so, your parts store should be able to get one with the correct pulley. I can buy either here in Wichita, the jobber stocks them. Have them look up for a 235 in their books, there should be a section listing by engine instead of applications by vehicle.

The 216 pump is slightly different, but bolts on a 235 1st series and has the wider pulley.
