Help, Have an engine with Captains bars on both sides of block. Cast date is: L 14 4, and block cast number is: 3769925. Head is marked 3835913. Is this a 261? 235? Thanks Bill

Bill, The block #'s show a 59-62 261, the head #'s (that I could find) show on the 54-55 235. Some of the more knowledgable members could elaborate about compatibility issues if there may be some. Also you might talk to Tom Langdon-Langdon's Stovebolt Engine Parts Co. (586)739-9601 or Beck's Machine & Tool-(805)925-7411.

Old Newby:
Maybe I'm missing something, but the cast date indicates: December 14th., 1954. (L 14 4) At least that's what I get from Patricks catalog. I sure hope it's a 261. ? Bill

Bill, I'm not very up on the 261, just got #'s from the info from casting #'s and links from the sidebar. I know there are many here that can help. Try contacting Don 1450, or gearhead ( Engines catagory moderator). They may have been gone for Thanksgiving.

Hay Bill are you going to put that 261 in your t bucket that is on the welcome page of this site? Haven't seen you in a couple of months thought that Evil had made you put your car toys away.

Bill, might be of some use to read the entries from the small search button at the TOP of the page. type in Captains bars, Engines catagory, and scroll down to the 'conflicting info casting #'s' entry.

bill in our casting #'s section the 3769925 shows to be a 58-62 261. the 913 head is a '54 235 car head. a sort of predecessor if you will to the 848 head. hope this helps.
your buddy,
robert
